Zwicker is a collection law firm found throughout the country. The accounts placed with them for collection are typically unsecured credit cards and personal loans. Like most collection law firms, they sue. You have options to resolve a debt with Zwicker and Associates.

The most appropriate approach to deal with Zwicker can depend on a number of things that I will cover below.

    • Who is the original creditor?
    • What is the balance owed?
    • Has Zwicker sued yet?
    • If they have sued, have you defended the suit?
    • Did Zwicker already get a judgment?
    • How much money do you have available to fund a settlement today?
    • How much money can you confidently predict you will have over time?
    • What other unpaid debts do you have that still need a solution?

Zwicker collects for some of the largest unsecured creditors in the country. The settlement and payment outcomes you can anticipate will often vary depending on who sent your account to them. Here are some of the common creditors that send debts to Zwicker.

    • American Express
    • Sofi
    • Discover
    • US Bank
    • Capital One
    • Fifth Third
    • PNC
    • Private Student Loans

Different lenders may have unique parameters for Zwicker when settling your account. Not just for how low to allow a settlement, but also for how long to allow the payments.

    Settling with Zwicker and Associates

How much you owe set beside who Zwicker is collecting for is the first part of your settlement strategy. Next we need to outline what amount of money you can come up with right now, and from whatever sources, then set that beside what you can confidently commit to over time… say 12 to 24 months. We can often get decent settlements with Zwicker where you pay the deal over time. This is a critical settlement feature some of us need to even agree to a settlement. Time to pay your Zwicker settlement is also what can help you prevent your next unresolved account from landing with a law firm.

Assume for a moment you have an American Express account that went to Zwicker that is for ten thousand dollars, and it can be settled for six thousand. Can you pull that together without impacting other settlements you may need to do in the near future? Great! If not, can you confidently commit to paying five hundred dollars a month for 12 months to pay off the 6k settlement? Great!

What if you need 24 months to pay the above settlement example at the rate of $250 a month? That kind of settlement with Zwicker happens.

Even if you could pay a settlement quicker, should you? I can talk with you about any remaining accounts you have and identify which creditors are likely to escalate to more aggressive collectors (this is knowable in advance). It could be critical to other successful settlements that you take the extra time to pay that may be available when settling with Zwicker.

    Has Zwicker Sued You?

I typically want to reach a settlement with Zwicker before they sue, but settling is just as effective if they have filed the suit, and often can be achieved with the same payment term flexibility.

Sometimes you want to engage in the formal court process when sued in order to buy time to raise money you don’t have. You will want to defend the suit to prevent a default judgment (which is the most common outcome for collection lawsuits filed in America)? I cover tools and resources for how to defend a Zwicker lawsuit in this video.

The state you live in will typically change the amount of time you have to respond to a Zwicker court action. It could also affect how long you can strategically use the formal court process to buy enough time to raise money to fund a settlement deal. Some counties across America have courts that are overwhelmed with lawsuits, and that can mean your case progresses slower, which could provide a benefit.

Check out this resource for negotiating when sued.

    Disputes and Validation with Zwicker

Like most third party debt collectors, Zwicker sends an initial collection letter that tells you about your right to dispute elements of the account they are collecting. You will also see the reference to requesting debt validation.

Zwicker primarily collects for original creditors who can provide any and all documentation needed to validate a debt, or respond to a dispute. Your creditor that sent Zwicker the account will often have already provided access to all of these details at the time they sent your debt to Zwicker.

If you have a legitimate dispute about any nature of the account, this is the time to raise those issues. I would go about disputes and validation requests when dealing with collection law firms differently than what you see posted all over the internet.

I should also point out that Zwicker and Associates is not a debt buyer. They did not purchase your account.

    Zwicker Associates and Credit Reporting

Zwicker Associates does not typically credit report. It is your original lender that would be showing an unpaid collection on your reports.

When you settle a debt with Zwicker, and pay the deal in a lump sum, you should monitor your credit reports about 60 days after your payment cleared your bank. If at that point you do not see the unpaid collection item you recently settled with Zwicker as a zero balance owed paid/settled collection account (as updated by the creditor/lender), it will be simple to get updated. Post in the comments below for tips on this.

If you are paying your Zwicker settlement over 12 to 24 months, you would wait about 60 days after your final settlement payment to review your credit reports for the same updates.
